Experience certainly hasn't been an issue for the Dobbs Ferry softball team this season with the Eagles being led by 10 seniors. Senior captains Jacqueline Crews, Hayley Bingham and Grete Falck-Pedersen have helped carry Dobbs Ferry to a 16-2 record, and the team has continued to build confidence heading into sectionals. "I think that our team meshes together really well, because we have been playing with each other for so long," Crews said. "We have a lot of seniors and a lot of experience, and I think there's a level of comfort and trust, which really helps us a lot." Crews, the Eagles' ace, has been a big key to Dobbs Ferry's success this season and has greatly improved as a starter with the further development of her rise ball and drop ball She has matured into the young lady in the circle who you just have the confidence that we will be in every game," coach Neil Abbatiello said. "She doesn't walk batters — she forces them to swing. She has the mixup where she can get a strikeout or make you put the ball in play." With Bingham, an all-section third baseman last year, taking over at shortstop this season, the Eagles have continued to benefit from her sound defense on the left side of the infield. We needed somebody with range and she came out ready to play," Abbatiello said. "She has good lateral movement and a lot of confidence in her throws. Falck-Pedersen, the cleanup hitter, supplies the bulk of the power in the lineup. She can change a game with one swing. The three captains have been playing together for quite some time and are the perfect blend of leadership. "I think, in general, the three of us work really well motivating the team," Falck-Pedersen said. "We make sure everyone is cheering and make sure everyone is pushing themselves and staying in the game, never giving up. All three of us work well doing that." "I think it's great," Bingham said of the closeness between teammates. "It's just a really cool way to end my whole softball career and for Jacqueline and Grete as well. It makes it really special for us."
